Info Doc:
The holiday season is rapidly coming upon us and the economy has hit us all hard in many ways. This year why not dip into your wallets and deep in your heart, to give to the less fortu-nate; To the single parents wishing to have holiday portraits of their newborn children. Those that would like the chance to have a family portrait. Something that can make their lives seem lighter in a time where they have to make choices between buying food and paying the bills. The holidays are about sharing, kindness and making people happy. With your help we can help some of these people.
So what is Help Portrait?
Help Portrait is a movement of photographers worldwide who are using their time, equipment and expertise to give back to those who are less fortunate this holiday season. It is intended to provide free portraits to people in need whom ordinarily could not afford a portrait session with a professional photography studio. To date, contact has been made with various churches and organizations to solicit support for the event which takes place here in town on December 12th (Saturday). We hope to have various locations that day where people can attend without having to travel too far to have their portrait taken.
So who can come for a portrait?
Typical examples would include, single parents, households with low income, seniors, the terminally ill, Big Brother/Big Sis-ter …and to that end, we’re relying on the churches and organizations to refer people that they feel would benefit from this. If you fall under this category, you are more than welcome to come and have a portrait session, we’ll just need a few details from you.
What happens on the day?
Essentially what happens on the day is the client arrives, receives a small makeover (free), has their portrait taken, and while they wait for their print, we hope to have tea/coffee/light snacks available for them. Time will vary on the level of people we have com-ing in. To help with this we’re hoping to have some sort of booking system in place, but overall, walk in’s will also be accepted.
How can you help?
There will be twenty photographers from the city here assisting with the photography that day, and make-over’s will be provided by local beauty spa’s. Right now, we are in touch with churches and organizations to make them aware of the project, which will be publicized in mid to late October in the local newspapers and radio stations. Donations of either products, services or monetary donations will help us achieve our goal that day would be more than appreciated. All sponsors will be duly noted with a word of thanks as we publicize the event in coming weeks.
Who do I contact?
The project is being organized by a group of local professional photographers.
To get involved in Collingwood contact Richard Roth @ email hidden; JavaScript is required. For cities elsewhere Rothphoto can forward you to the correct representative.
This video explains pretty much everything as well.
If you would like to get involved please email me.
2008 LG Fashion Fusion, Toronto, Ontario

Fashion week
LG Fashion Fusion is one of the events of the Toronto Fashion week. This was my frst official fashion event shoot so I was running around like a chicken with its head cut off for most of the night but i think that worked out a little for me.. I wasn’t there shooting the typical shots you would see at a show. I was there shooting for LG and Eventsing, the hosts. I was to photograph the event as a whole, not one specific thing. A perfect example is when a dozen photogs were fighting to shoot photos of ‘important’ people entering the building I was back having a ball with my Fish eye, shooting the madness going on. This was a learning experiences for me though and I thank Andrew Singleton and the Eventsing crew for the help I received throughout the night.
There are WAY too many photos to post so I picked out some random ones I liked.
Enjoy.

Cellphone Madness

Outside the Venue

I think he was a fashion TV host..

I may have wondered into the make-up room, and then made a wrong turn into a change room… No photos though

Nice lounges before the madness arrives.

Spinning the tunes

One of the hosts of the night

That’s right, there is a Spoon and Fork coming out of her cup-hat.

Jedi meets Goldmember.

I wonder what they were looking at..?

Swimsuit models

Media frenzy

… Maroon 5… and Cellphone madness

I think I would look great with that boa

Spicy Lingerie

Amazing lighting in this place.

More amazing lighting.

Portraits of Anton Volek, Head Chef/Patron @ At The Five, Barrie, Ontario.
by Richard Roth on Aug.26, 2009, under People, Product and Fashion
I first met Anton randomly on a family vacation to Panama. A number of other families from the neighborhood I grew up in all went together in a group of 20-30 people and Anton was there with some friends I grew up with. I knew he was a good guy right away because he was walking around with a Canon 5D. Since then I have now done a couple photo shoots for his Restaurant, At The Five in Barrie, Ontario. The 1st being a food prep shoot on a very busy night during Barrielishious, a week where all the restaurants offer full coarse meals for $20. The other was this afternoon, portraits for their website launching one week from today. He was looking for a gritty Black and White look, I think I got what he had in mind.
I will link the restaurant site when its up. I also HIGHLY recommend going to At The Five if you have not yet.
Get a Strawberry Mule to drink while your there too, It’ll change your life
